The key is to stick to the muted tones. The yellow here is still strong, but it's more mustard than citrus and the same goes for the red, it's more of an earthy red than a vibrant primary. There's also a lot of light in this kitchen, which helps, and the white walls and ceiling balance out all the color that's going on. Is anyone ordering all the yellow color swatches now?

Now, if you want a kitchen that inspires, then be bold and use all black: cabinets, walls, ceilings, everything. The very important key to making this look work is to keep the undertones of the color you are going for.
If your kitchen gets a lot of natural light, you can go for any black you like, but we'll say that true black as a color for five walls can look a little harsh, so go for something that's soft in tone and has blue undertones. Just be sure to order plenty of color swatches before you commit and see how all the different shades look in your space.
And when it comes to what sits on the floor in your interiors, opt for stone flooring. Because? Well, let the experts explain...
"Natural stone floors can be one of the most forgiving flooring options when the right stone and finish are chosen," says Isabel Fernández, director ofPiedra de Quorn(opens in a new tab).
“Of course, some stones are denser than others, which makes them more durable; However, all natural stones are subject to wear and tear over the years. A polished finish provides an aged look, its worn edges, textured surface and natural markings make it extremely forgiving of everyday crumbs and grime.'

What finish should I choose for my black kitchen?
"Choosing the right finish for your kitchen is very important as it has a huge impact on the overall design, which is especially important when decorating with darker shades," says Darren Watts, Design Director,Wren Kitchens(opens in a new tab).
“If you're concerned about getting enough light into the room, a glossy finish is a good choice. The gloss reflects the light, creating a mirror-like surface and making the room appear more spacious. Glossy surfaces are often used in modern design and give your kitchen a glamorous look.'
“Matt, on the other hand, looks great in a more traditional or country-style kitchen. While it doesn't do much to reflect light, a dark matte finish looks lovely with wood fixtures and adds a contemporary feel to the space."
Is a black kitchen a good idea?
“Black kitchen design has become increasingly popular in recent years, but this trend can be a bit pretentious if not done right. Unfortunately, black doesn't look good everywhere," Watts warns.
“Before deciding, you should carefully consider the size and shape of your kitchen and the amount of light it receives each day. Because black is so dark, it makes a room appear smaller. So if your kitchen is already tight on space, use black sparingly. A striking black island is a great way to create a striking centerpiece that can be contrasted against light colored walls and cabinets as a unique black feature.”
“Black can dominate an interior design, but there are ways around it. It's all about finding the right balance, using enough black to make a statement while also making sure the space stays light and airy."
“Two-tone cabinets are a great way to achieve this look. Try incorporating a row of black cabinets along the back wall of your kitchen and contrast it with another, softer shade. Remember that dark colors call your attention, so useless if you have a large kitchen, you should avoid using them in tall or suspended cabinets as it would close off the space.'
What colors go well with a black kitchen?
The colors that usually go with black are neutrals. But as our gorgeous yellow and black kitchen demonstrated, black goes with a lot of colors if you keep them on a subdued side. However, if you're looking for a combination with longevity, you can't go wrong with black and white, cream or gray... or whatever you wear most.
